this is the bay area's news station. kron 4 starts now. a horrific crash leaves a teenager dead and a mother and daughter hurt on the streets of san francisco. tonight authorities told us there will not be any intomation released about the driver tonight or over the weekend. earlier the police said the accident happened when the unidentified woman was driving a mother dade disease and crashed into the back of a van. the name of the 16-year-old killed is kevin san.

the charges the driver could face -- >> reporter: this tangled mess is what's left of two vehicles following a deadly collision just before 7:00 in the morning. >> the vehicle responsible for was southern most lane, pulled around a bus and, again, according to one witness, hit the van from behind exploding it up into the air. >> you could tell this had a weight to it. it was really serious. >> are police say the mini van was stopped at a light when hit by an elderly woman doing speeds of 70 or 80 miles an hour. >> officers saw the vehicle pass them at a rate of speed upwards of 70 miles an hour by

dodger fan. the suspect has been released from the jail. >> reporter: san francisco county sheriff's department confirmed that michael montgomery was released. we do not know where he is. we've been out in front of the jail for 3 hours. it's possible he may have exited from a different location. michael montgomery is accused of stabbing 24-year-old jonathan denver to death. da says he doesn't have enough evidence to prosecute this case

right now. they want to prove without a beyond a reasonable doubt that he's guilty. we spoke to a man in a holding cell with montgomery. he spoke to him briefly and he said that montgomery gave him a brief account of what happened on wednesday night. >> it was just a typical kind of riot situation at a sporting event. he was out numbered and had to defend himself. i had not read about it in the papers or heard it often the news. he seemed confident that it was self defense and he'd be coming through it okay. i don't know the back story so i can't say. >> reporter: michael montgomery's father said the same thing. after speaking with his son it appears to be self defense. that's still up in the air t.district attorney wanted to

make it clear that montgomery could be arrested again once they're able to compile their investigation. if they do come to the conclusion that there is enough evidence and they can prosecute then they will do so. a story only on kron 4, the district attorney's office chargeed the man shown in this instagram video, he's hit the puppy with a belt to discipline the dog. lovie, seen in the video and the family's o're dog, are staying at an animal shelter. they'll remain there during investigation. daniels and the family say it's a brig misunderstanding. police say today the santa clara high school teacher
